Orthotics & Insoles

What are orthotics and insoles?

Orthotics / insoles are prescribed medical devices that are fitted into your shoes. They work by redistributing the pressure you put on your feet when you walk or run, and can improve symptoms in your legs, back and hips as well as your feet.

It is important that you are given the right type of insole for your particular case. At Podiatry Station, we will carry out a full gait analysis to determine what exactly you need.

Types of orthotics available at Podiatry Station

  • Prefabricated insoles

These are premium ‘off-the-shelf’ orthotics that offer a more affordable solution for your foot pain and discomfort. Our prefabricated insoles are a much higher quality than insoles you may see for sale in high street shops or pharmacies, and have been picked by our experienced podiatrists. This type of insole can be customised with cushioning or support additions in our clinic.

  • Casted prescription orthotics

These are custom-made for your feet in a dedicated lab to ensure a perfect fit. We use advanced technology to ensure a simple and quick process, with your exact specifications captured using a 3D scanner. Casted orthotics are long-lasting, reliable, effective and have the ability to reduce your pain.

  • Phits 3D printed insoles

These innovative orthotics use biometric data to ensure an incredible result. Your gait pattern is analysed and used in a dynamic way, creating a picture of how you walk which can identify the cause of any issues. An insole is then designed based on your live results. The 3D printing of your insole ensures an accurate, lightweight, and durable final result. They are completely unique to you, tailored to your needs and strong yet thin enough to fit inside your trainers.

Frequently asked questions

Insoles and orthotics are used by podiatrists to help with treatment and correction. They are also used to reduce pain by redistributing pressure points in your foot. If you need insoles to help you walk correctly, we will prescribe the optimum type for you.

Insoles that are easily available to purchase in high street shops or pharmacies are not suitable for relieving pain or providing support. These are usually used for comfort purposes only. Our range of insoles and orthotics are designed with your entire foot in mind to get the best results.

We recommend you have your orthotics checked at least once a year to ensure they are still working correctly and providing the best support. How long they last will be dependent on the type and style of your insole and this can vary.

The best way to clean your orthotics and keep them looking and smelling fresh is to use a soft cloth and soapy water. Simply wipe them down and make sure they are completely dry before putting them back in your shoes. Avoid putting your orthotics in the washing machine or tumble dryer, as this can cause damage.
